Star

I find that I tend to make masculine cards more of a CAS style and bold colours.  This card seemed to fit the bill and was made with some striped backing paper from my scraps box and I punched some  small circles from some red scraps for the corners.  The sentiment was produced digitally and then cut out with a Spellbinders die.

I have entered it into the following challenges:

Dream Valley challenges:  Just for Men

3rd

At my card group this afternoon  we were making cards for special events e.g. 25th wedding anniversary, 50th birthday etc.  This year I need to 3rd birthdays and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to make one of them.  The cards were cut by one of the members who has an electronic cutter.

I used my Promarkers to highlight the wording that had been cut for me and then I cut some backing squares to go under the Craft Works Ice Cream Parlour papers I had chosen in browns and pinks.  I then used two Spellbinders shapes on which to mount a small bear topper.  I then added Card Candi to the scallops on the topper.

Tag It

I was given the distressed tag in a swap last year but never had the right papers to provide the inspiration needed to make a card with it.  I got a pack of Bo Bunny Etcetera papers just after Christmas and just fell in love with the backing paper I have used on the card and new it teamed well with the tag.  I ran a distress ink round the edge of the paper to make it stand out from the base card.  I rummaged in my stash of ribbons and mounted one on a strip of open weave type paper and then used a button to finish off the card.

I received this image as part of a stamped images swap over on Crafts by Carolyn Forum.  Two little cute angels just needed to be coloured and then I added some Stickles to ad some sparkle on the head dresses and wings.  I used offcuts from two papers from a pack of non-traditional coloured christmas papers that I bought several years ago, some silver card candy and a stamped image.

Pink

Flowers were everywhere in the supermarket this morning, lots of red, white and pink flowers .... can only think that love is in the air!!  Variations on pink seem to be a favourite in blogland challenges at the moment so I have used some snippets of textured papers I had and then stamped them with my new Technique Tuesday Petit Posies stamps and cut them out.  I then stamped and cut the centres separately before mounting on my base card .... leaving room for a sentiment.  Another CAS card!!!

Photos of red and pink never seem to come out quite how the colours are in real life and so hope these have come out well enough for me to enter it in the following challenges.

Wings

Blings and Wings and Pretty Things is the February challenge over on the Crafts by Carolyn forum.  I couldn't resist getting the Marianne Creatables butterfly die out again; I so love that pretty butterfly.  It meets two parts of the challenge so I just needed to add the bling element.  Out came the Stickles and I "blinged" the butterfly.  Hope you like it Kath and thanks for setting the challenge this month.

Jacksons

For a long time I have struggled with tracing my paternal side of the family as they come from Scotland and most of the records needed are not on the sites I use for much of my ancestors from England.

Last week I was busy entering what I do know into my new genealogy programme that I bought last year and I thought I would have another shot at trying to trace these elusive Jacksons.  I suppose they are not so much elusive as me being able to find the correct ones out of the ones that there are around, and there are many in Renfrewshire!!! It also doesn't help that Robert is son of Robert who is son of Robert etc

However the good genealogy fraternity of Scotland on various mailing groups and forums came up with ideas to trace them and I even had a copy of the record sent to me. 50% of my brickwall parents, of Robert Jackson born about 1773 in Kilbarchan, has tumbled and I now know that Robert was son of Robert Jackson and Janet Speir (Spier).  I only wish the same method of research had worked for his mother, Isabella Crawford (Crauford) born about 1795, but sadly it didn't and I am still none the wiser who her parents were.

Love

I have been making several CAS cards recently and seeing as there are so many "Love" blog challenges at the moment I combined the two and came up with this.  It also enabled me to use some scraps to silver card and an old Christmas Cracker from several years ago to make the lettering on the tags.  I used my Cuttlebug to make both the tags and the lettering.

Betsy

Betsy Bluebell is such a loveable stamp (from Penny Black) and she looks so different here coloured in red and black Promarkers.  I punched two balloons extra to add above the image as an embellishment and mounted it all on a piece of Christmas Cracker from last year (Christmas 2010)!!!

Do you see those little hearts in her hair?  I have used Glossy Accents to make them pop; that doesn't show up too well in the photos.  Hearts was a requirement at the following challenges that I have entered it in: Artistic StamperOldie but a goodieTuesday Throwdown
